Hydration, Electrolytes, and Renal Longevity in High Altitudes

High altitude environments stimulate hyperventilation and elevated fluid loss via respiration and dry air. When combined with intense physical exertion, acute kidney injury can occur if fluid balance is neglected.

Why Electrolyte Balance Matters

Water alone is not always sufficient when sweating profusely at higher altitudes. Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium ensure cellular osmosis remains balanced, preventing hyponatremia and muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) which burdens renal tubules.
